There are many styles of acupuncture that have developed over the thousands of years that acupuncture has been practiced. Some work better than others for specific conditions, and it is important to match the patient with the most effective style of treatment.

We include the use of 5 element acupuncture for the majority of patients we see. 5 element acupuncture is one of the most powerful treatment options for working on the level of the mind and spirit. You can learn more about 5 element acupuncture by downloading our free ebook, How To Thrive In the Modern World.

Because many of the health concerns we treat in the clinic are either caused or aggravated by the stress, frustration, and uncertainty we experience in modern society, we feel it is critically important to address and balance our patients on those levels, as well as treating the symptoms.

Simply put, many people have “lost” their ability to function at, or even near, their best level. 5 element acupuncture and EFT are primarily intended to get rid of the blockages that prevent physical and emotional healing, and restore your innate ability to balance and repair your systems. So that you get yourself back, the big YOU that is able to grow, be healthy, and fully alive. Until this happens, all treatment will only put a bandage on the real issue.

8 principle and Dr. Tan-style acupuncture is also frequently used, especially for patients who need more immediate relief from pain or other symptoms. The vast majority of acupuncturists trained in the Western world use 8 principle acupuncture, even though this style was only recently developed in Mainland China and doesn’t do justice to acupuncture’s rich and diverse heritage. Unfortunately, this has resulted in many of the acupuncture schools try to emulate the Western medical model by reducing acupuncture down to a mechanistic set of protocols that can be performed by any competent technician of the medicine. There are certainly amazing 8 principle acupuncturists out there, but many of them have lost the real spirit of Chinese medicine.

Olympia Acupuncture is one of the only clinics to combine 5 element and 8 principle acupuncture along with EFT and other modalities to offer you a truly comprehensive treatment approach. Add to this combination the possibilities of Asian herbs, and guided stress reduction exercises and you have a very potent and synergistic blend of therapies that can get you back on track in your life. This multi-layered approach is often what it takes to make real change in our modern world, as there are so many forces out there that prevent us from optimal health and wellness.

Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine is an ancient, highly elaborate system of natural healing that has been used by billions of people for all kinds of health conditions. When necessary, we recommend an appropriate herbal formula to help speed recovery from illness and disease.

Chinese herbal medicine is a wonderful complement to acupuncture treatment, as it works on different substrates in the body and maintains continuity in therapeutic intervention. Acupuncture works on the level of energy by harmonizing the flow of Qi through the main energetic pathways of the body. Quantum physics has verified that our entire material world is comprised of energy, as is the human body. Acupuncture is so unique because it is one of the few therapies that can manipulate the flow of energy in the body and mind to produce a therapeutic effect. In acupuncture theory, until chronic health conditions are addressed on the energetic level, the root cause or problem will often be neglected.

Chinese herbs work more on the level of blood and manifest physiology. The herbs contain macro and micronutrients that can have specific therapeutic effects on certain organs of the body, such as the liver or kidneys. By working on both the immaterial and material levels, the treatment of acupuncture with herbs is much more effective and lasting.

It is extremely important that the foods we eat support the healing and rejuvenation process. We encourage all of our patients to choose an organic whole foods diet that has minimal amounts of sugars, white flour products, synthetic additives, or a bunch of ingredients that are difficult to pronounce. Think twice before you buy a “food” that requires a label. Nature doesn’t come with labels, and we are part of nature.

After that, we believe that nutritional guidelines need to be specific to you as an individual. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to the best way to eat because each of us has different constitutions. What works for one person won’t work for another.

We generally don’t believe in or recommend diets because they flat out don’t work. The goal is to find a balanced and authentic way to eat for the long-term. If it feels unnatural, forced, or excessively uncomfortable there is almost no chance of the diet becoming a viable long-term solution.

In this day and age, our relationship with food has so much to do with how well we are managing stress, expressing our emotions, and maintaining awareness of our core values. We easily turn to food for immediate gratification and comfort, which so often points to a deeper imbalance that is taking place in the mind. Our goal is to help you work on this level so you can make lasting changes, possibly for the first time ever.

We use Emotional Freedom Techniques, acupuncture, and other energy therapies to balance the cravings and emotional issues that interfere with making wise food choices. This “missing ingredient” often makes the difference between average and extraordinary results.
