I’ve always loved sports, and have had my share of sports-related injuries. By the time I was in my early 20’s, a back injury from high school football had become chronic, and I was having difficulty even putting on my shoes. I began studying Tai Chi and Kung Fu, and my back was better within a month. Since that time, I’ve occasionally experienced episodes again, and Chinese medicine has always worked quickly to resolve the pain.
Acupuncture doesn’t just speed healing and reduce pain.
One exciting way that western and eastern medicine are contributing to each other is using acupuncture to treat motor points. These anatomically unique points are where the nerves enter the muscles to stimulate muscle movement. As a result of injury or other trauma these motor points can become dysfunctional, which in turn leads to improper movement patterns and increased susceptibility to injury.
It is vitally important to restore proper muscle function with acupuncture, and this is unfortunately often overlooked during conventional treatment for injury.
Here are some of the sports injuries I’ve treated successfully:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendonitis
- Pain of the first MTP (big toe)
- Sprained ankle (or any other joint)
- Shin Splints
- Knee pain
- Ilio-tibial band syndrome
- Hamstring strain
- Hip pain
- Low back pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Elbow pain
- Shoulder pain
- Rotator Cuff
- Neck strain/stiffness
